It marks the memory of the \u00c5land County Council’s first meeting in 1922, which later became the \u00c5land Legislative Council in 1993. But to truly understand the importance of this day, we need to shed light on the historical events that led up to it.<\/p>\n The \u00c5land Islands, located between Sweden and Finland, have always been an area of great cultural and strategic importance. After the First World War and Finland’s independence from Russia, a strong movement grew on \u00c5land, called the \u00c5land Movement. With legitimate claims from both sides, it got complicated. This is where the League of Nations came into the picture.
